Carabao Cup final weekend: a fixture clash worth watching
The final has been given a weekend that was originally earmarked for Manchester City against Manchester United in the Premier League. If either Manchester club reaches Wembley, the league derby is likely to be moved to a later date. That matters if you already have plans around the derby: hold off on non-refundable travel until the cup semi-finals are settled.
Our derbies and big games page follows that match and other headline fixtures, and will reflect any rescheduling once it is official.
Why the Carabao Cup is different
The League Cup has existed since the early 1960s and has long been the trophy that bigger clubs treat as a chance to rotate, while Championship and League One sides see it as a genuine shot at silverware. Every so often a lower-league team goes all the way to Wembley, and those runs tend to be remembered for decades.
For supporters, the timing is a big draw. A March final means a trip to London before the frantic end-of-season run-in, and it is the first chance in the calendar for a squad to lift a trophy. It also tends to be a slightly easier ticket to land than the FA Cup final in May, simply because a lower-league finalist may have a smaller membership base to serve.
How to get Carabao Cup final tickets
Wembley tickets for the final are split mainly between the two finalists, with each club selling its allocation to its own fans. Expect the usual sequence:
- Season-ticket holders with the most away or cup credits, or loyalty points, get the first window.
- Members follow, sometimes split into several phases by points.
- General sale only happens if a club still has seats left, which is more common for smaller clubs than for the biggest names.
Sales can open within days of the semi-finals, so the time to sort out your membership is now, not in February. Switch on our ticket alert and we will tell you as soon as the finalists publish their sales dates.
Steer clear of risky Carabao Cup resale
As with any Wembley final, resale platforms will carry listings, often at steep markups. Tickets are generally issued against a named club account and Wembley's conditions prohibit unauthorised resale, so a ticket from an unofficial seller can be cancelled before you reach the turnstile. If a club operates an official member-to-member exchange, that is the safe way to buy a spare seat.

Carabao final day at Wembley: a practical guide
Wembley Park on the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines is the classic approach, with the walk up Olympic Way a ritual in itself. Wembley Stadium station has trains from Marylebone, and Wembley Central sits on the Bakerloo line and the Overground. Sunday engineering works sometimes affect London transport, so check your route on the morning of the match.
Fans watching or flying in from North America should note that the United States moves its clocks forward a couple of weeks before the UK does, so on final day the gap between London and New York will be four hours rather than the usual five. Once the EFL confirms the kick-off, we will post the time here in UK time.
What comes after the Carabao Cup in 2027
The League Cup final is the opening act of a busy year. The FA Cup final follows at Wembley on Saturday 22 May, before English clubs turn their attention to the Europa League final in Frankfurt and the Champions League final in Madrid.
