One detail worth watching is the kick-off. For years the final started at 21:00 local time, but UEFA moved the 2026 final in Budapest to 18:00 to ease travel for supporters. Whether Madrid follows the same pattern has not been announced, so treat any time you see quoted elsewhere as speculation until UEFA confirms it.
How the Champions League final moved from San Siro to Madrid
Milan was originally lined up to stage this final at San Siro. UEFA withdrew those hosting rights and reopened the bidding in October 2024. Only two cities applied, Madrid and Baku, and on 11 September 2025 the UEFA Executive Committee, meeting in Tirana, handed the match to Madrid.
For British fans the venue will ring a bell. The Metropolitano hosted its first Champions League final on 1 June 2019, when Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in an all-English showpiece. 2027 will be the stadium's second final, and the Spanish capital's experience of handling huge travelling crowds is one reason the city tends to be a safe pair of hands for UEFA.
The road to Madrid: Champions League knockout calendar
The league phase wraps up on 27 January 2027. From there, every round is played over two legs until the one-off final:
- Knockout play-off draw: expected 29 January 2027 in Nyon (to be confirmed)
- Knockout play-offs: 16/17 and 23/24 February 2027
- Round of 16 draw: expected 26 February 2027 (to be confirmed); under the current format it sets the whole bracket through to the final
- Round of 16: 9/10 and 16/17 March 2027
- Quarter-finals: 6/7 and 13/14 April 2027
- Semi-finals: 27/28 April and 4/5 May 2027
- Final: Saturday 5 June 2027, Madrid
That leaves roughly a month between the second semi-final legs and the final, which is the window clubs use to sell their own allocations to members and season ticket holders.
How UEFA sells Champions League final tickets
UEFA has not yet published the 2027 sales calendar, but the 2026 final gives a clear template. Tickets went on sale only through uefa.com, with a public application window that opened at 11:00 CET on 19 March 2026. Crucially, it was not first come, first served: once the window closed, UEFA ran a ballot among all applicants.
- Press reports put the limit at two tickets per person.
- Tickets are mobile, personal and non-transferable.
- Each finalist club receives its own allocation (17,200 tickets per club in 2026), sold by the clubs themselves.
- The cheapest category, called Fans First, is reserved for the finalists' allocations.
- According to press reports, an official face-value resale platform was open only to applicants who missed out in the ballot.
In 2026, 39,000 of the 61,400 tickets were set aside for fans of the two clubs and the general public. If you want to know the moment the 2027 window opens, set up our free ticket alert; the application period is short and easy to miss.
What the last Champions League final cost
Prices for Madrid are still to be confirmed. As a reference only, UEFA's official prices for the 2026 final in Budapest were €70 for Fans First (finalists only), €180 for Category 3, €650 for Category 2 and €950 for Category 1. Press reports said these were held at the previous year's level.
For budgeting, assume something in that range for a face-value ticket, then add flights and accommodation, which usually cost far more than the ticket itself in a host city on final weekend. Americans flying in should factor in a long-haul fare; UK fans have plenty of direct routes into Madrid-Barajas, but prices climb sharply once the finalists are known.
If your club reaches the Champions League final
Supporters of the two finalists have the best odds by far, because the club allocations are much larger than anything left for the neutral ballot. Each club sets its own sales rules, typically giving priority to season ticket holders and members with an attendance history in European away games. If you follow a club still in the competition, check that your membership is active and your loyalty record is up to date well before the semi-finals.
Neutral fans should apply in the UEFA ballot regardless of who reaches the final: it is the only way to get a face-value seat without club membership. You can still apply even if your team is eliminated early.
Getting to the Metropolitano for the Champions League final
The stadium sits in the east of Madrid and is served by its own Metro stop, Estadio Metropolitano, on line 7. On final day, expect the network to be busy for hours either side of the match, so allow plenty of time. Madrid-Barajas airport is relatively close to the ground, but hotels near the stadium are limited; most visitors stay in the centre and travel out by Metro.
Early June in Madrid is usually warm, and fan zones tend to fill up from midday. Book refundable accommodation now if you are serious about going. Some fans will also be tempted to combine trips: the Conference League final in Istanbul is three days earlier, and the Europa League final in Frankfurt falls on 26 May. If you are in Madrid earlier in the season, our big match guide covers the Madrid derby and El Clásico at the Bernabéu.
A word on Champions League final resale
Because final tickets are personal and tied to the buyer's identity, a ticket bought from a stranger may be cancelled or refused at the gate. Resale platforms do exist and some fans use them, but prices are often several times face value and you carry the risk if the ticket is blocked. Stick to uefa.com and your club wherever possible. We are an independent guide with no link to UEFA; our role is to tell you when official sales open and what to expect. For the full year ahead, see our 2027 football calendar.
